Recommended Treatment for Selected Infections During Pregnancy -2000

 


Infection Treatment
Bacterial vaginosis Metronidazole 250 mg orally, t.i.d., for 7 d; OR metronidazole 2 g orally, in one dose; OR clindamycin 300 mg orally, b.i.d., for 7 d; OR metronidazole gel 0.75% 5g intravaginally, twice daily, for 5 d
Early syphilis (primary, secondary, or latent; of <1 year's duration) Penicillin G benzathine 2.4 million U IM, in one dose
Late syphilis (of>1 year's duration) Penicillin G benzthine 2.4 million U/wk IM, for 3 wks
Neurosyphilis Penicillin G 18-24 million U/d IV, for 10-14 d
Hepatitis B Infant to receive hepatitis B immune globulin and hepatitis vaccine within 12 h of delivery
Neisseria gonorrhoeae infection Ceftriaxone 125 mg OR spectinomycin 2 g, in one IM dose; should also receive antichlamydial treatment
Chlamydia trachomatis infection Erythromycin base 500 mg orally, q.i.d., for 7 d; OR amoxicillin 500 mg orally, t.i.d., for 7 d; OR azithromycin 1 g orally, in one dose
