RANSON'S CRITERIA: For Determining Prognosis of Acute Pancreatitis

• UPON ADMISSION:
• 1. Age &GT 55
  2. Blood Glucose &GT 200 mg/dl
  3. WBC count &GT 16,000 / cu mm
  4. Serum LDH &GT 700 IU%
  5. SGOT &GT 250 SF units % (56 units/dl)
• AFTER 48 HOURS:
• 1. HCT decrease &GT 10%
  2. Serum Ca2+ &LT 8mg % (mg/dl)
  3. Base Deficit &GT 4 meq/l
  4. BUN increase &GT 5mg % (mg/dl)
  5. est. fluid retention &GT 6L
  6. Arterial 02 tension &LT 60 mm/dg

&LT 3 signs - better prognosis, &LT 1% mortality.

&GT 3 signs - serious acute pancreatitis - may be 25% mortality.
