RANSON'S CRITERIA: For Determining Prognosis of Acute
Pancreatitis
- UPON ADMISSION:
- Age > 55
- Blood Glucose > 200 mg/dl
- WBC count > 16,000 / cu mm
- Serum LDH > 700 IU%
- SGOT > 250 SF units % (56 units/dl)
- AFTER 48 HOURS:
- HCT decrease > 10%
- Serum Ca2+ < 8mg % (mg/dl)
- Base Deficit > 4 meq/l
- BUN increase > 5mg % (mg/dl)
- est. fluid retention > 6L
- Arterial 02 tension < 60 mm/dg
< 3 signs - better prognosis, < 1% mortality.
> 3 signs - serious acute pancreatitis - may be 25%
mortality.
