Treatment of Shingles in Different Patient Populations
Immunocompetent adult
Acyclovir 800 mg po five times daily for 7-10 days
Valacyclovir 1 g po tid for 7 days
Famciclovir 500 mg po tid for 7 days
Immunocompromised adult
Acyclovir 10 mg/kg IV every 8 hours for 7 days
Immunocompromised child
Acyclovir 500 mg/m2 IV every 8 hours for 7-10 days
