New Whiteboards in Library Study Rooms!

Please bear with us while study rooms are closed so that new whiteboards can be installed. In Library focus groups and surveys, students have repeatedly asked for new whiteboards to replace the old chalkboards and “ghosted” whiteboards, as well as for whiteboards in the rooms that had nothing. Installation begins on second floor on Thursday, July 14. Ground floor rooms will be available while work is being done on second floor. When installation is complete on second floor, those rooms will again become available and the ground floor rooms will be closed. We are sorry for the inconvenience but we are happy to be able to make these improvements!

New printing system coming soon!

A new printing management system, PaperCut, will soon be available in the Library.  This new software will be used for photocopying documents as well as printing documents from the public computers in the Library.  All LSU Health faculty, staff, and students will be able to scan their LSU badges for payment, so copy cards will no longer be required!  Cost will be 10 cents for black & white printing and 35 cents for color copies.  The Library’s printers and copiers are located in room 1-415.

Librarians Fulfill Committee Responsibilities at International Meeting

Six librarians from LSU Health Shreveport recently attended “Mosaic ’16,” a conference in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, sponsored jointly by the Medical Library Association (MLA), the Canadian Health Libraries Association, and the International Clinical Librarians Conference.  Our librarians participated in numerous committee meetings throughout the conference. Dixie Jones, Library Director, co-chaired the Scholarly Communications Committee of the Association of Academic Health Sciences Libraries.   Ms. Jones also attended the meeting of MLA’s Grants and Scholarships Committee as well as Editorial Board meetings for the Journal of the Medical Library Association and the Journal of Hospital Librarianship. Library Associate Director Will Olmstadt attended the meeting of MLA’s Credentialing Committee as the liaison from the regional chapter.  Lexi Brackett, Reference Librarian, has been appointed to MLA’s Membership Committee, so she attended its meeting. Montie’ Dobbins, Head of Access Services, attended several committee and section meetings, serving as Elections Committee Chair of the Chapter Council and Bylaws Committee Chair of the Public Services Section.  David Duggar, Head of the Library Liaison Program, was installed as treasurer for MLA’s Cancer Librarians Section.  Other meetings he attended were in fulfillment of his responsibilities as Immediate Past Chair of MLA’s Nursing and Allied Health Resources Section.  Julia Esparza, Head of User Education and Outreach Services, attended a meeting of the Ad Hoc Committee to Review Core Clinical Journals.   Kudos to these librarians for representing LSU Health Shreveport so well on the international level!
