            <title>Beethoven and the Sound that Failed</title>
            <description>Do not miss the Department of Internal Medicine Grand Rounds clinicopathological conference on Ludwig van Beethoven presented by Philip A. Mackowiak, M.D., M.B.A., Professor and Vice Chairman, Department of Medicine, University of Maryland School of Medicine; Chief of the Medical Care Clinical Center, VA Maryland Health Care System. “Beethoven and the Sound that Failed” will be presented on Tuesday, November 17th at noon in the auditorium, room 1-400. The presentation will be accompanied by a chamber ensemble performing selected Beethoven compositions.

Dr. Mackowiak is the author of Post Mortem: Solving History’s Great Medical Mysteries. In conjunction with the Grand Rounds, the library will be showcasing an exhibit that features Dr. Mackowiak and his book which examines the lives and deaths of twelve famous men and women. A related exhibit will focus on medical maladies of other famous people.</description>

            <title>Endowed Professorship Announced</title>
            <description>Library Director Marianne Comegys and her husband Stafford have established the Marianne and Stafford Comegys Professorship in Medical Library Science, which will fund continuing education for library faculty. The Comegys&apos; private donation was matched with state funds from the Louisiana Education Quality Support Fund. The state matching funds were announced by Board of Regents member W. Clinton Rasberry at a ceremony November 2nd.</description>

To access the link from Net Access, simply click on Web Links and then scroll down to click on AskALibrarian . Librarians will check for questions at least twice a day, Monday through Friday.</description>

            <title>Art in the Library</title>
            <description>The Library is currently hosting the Hoover Watercolor Society’s annual fall show. The exhibit of sixty-nine paintings will be on display until the end of November. A list of the paintings is available at the Library Circulation Desk, with prices included for those items that are available for purchase. The Hoover Watercolor Society is a private, non-profit organization founded in 1958 as the Shreveport Watercolor Society. The Society’s goals are to provide members with opportunities to exhibit their artwork and to educate the public in fine watercolor art.</description>
